A Safe Space to Begin

A Safe Space to Begin

Your Doctor Referred You for Pilates. Now What?

Welcome! We know being referred for Pilates might feel new or even overwhelming.

This is a safe space where you can ask questions, explore at your own pace, and feel supported every step of the way.

Our team is here to guide you with care, professionalism, and encouragement.

Why Pilates for Rehabilitation?

Pilates is more than exercise.  It is a pathway to recovery and long-term wellness.

Pre-surgery: Build strength and resilience to make your recovery smoother.

Post-surgery: Restore mobility safely and effectively, with movements tailored to your healing process.

Chronic pain: Correct posture, ease discomfort, and support your body in moving with less strain.
Every journey is unique, and we’ll meet you exactly where you are.

Our Signature Rehabilitation Programme

Exclusively designed for specialist referrals, this programme has stood the test of time, trusted by countless individuals recovering from injury or surgery, and those beginning their Pilates journey.

Here’s what it includes:

Four personalised one-on-one sessions with a qualified Physiotherapist or Biokineticist.

Focus on rebuilding strength, restoring mobility, and enhancing balance – at your own pace.

Three mat-based group classes to reinforce foundational Pilates principles in a supportive setting.

Following this programme, you can continue your recovery and maintenance journey with group class packages.

Note: The private sessions under our Rehabilitation Programme are claimable from medical aid, provided we have your details on record. Sessions are paid in advance, either in full or in two instalments, and we will issue an invoice with the relevant codes. For medical aid purposes, our Practice Number is 0129305. Each rehabilitation session is billed using the following tariff codes: 72501 (R420,00), 72509 (R430,00), and 72401 (R150,00), which together total R1000 per 60-minute session. These codes will be charged four times across the programme. The ICD-10 code we generally use is M53.96 – Dorsopathy, unspecified lumbar region, unless your specialist provides alternative codes.

Frequently Asked Questions

We encourage you to attend two sessions per week if your schedule allows. With regular practice, muscle memory begins to develop over about four months, and most clients notice meaningful improvements by then.

Of course, every journey is unique.  Progress looks different for each person, but one thing remains true: consistency brings results.

Pilates is renowned for its focus on the core, and you’ll soon understand why. You’ll feel muscles awakening and strengthening in ways you may never have experienced before. This isn’t about chasing a “burn”,  it is about building deep stability that supports your entire body, helping you move with confidence and ease.

Pilates rehabilitation is about long-term change. With consistency, you’ll notice improvements in strength, posture, and pain management. It’s not about instant results – it’s about building a foundation for a healthier, more confident life.

You can do private sessions and then move into group class packages.

However, we strongly recommend at least 4–5 individual sessions with a therapist, especially if you’re new to Pilates.

This ensures safe, effective progress.

Your rehabilitation journey begins with a comprehensive assessment. During this first session, your therapist will review your medical history, evaluate your posture and movement patterns and identify any pain triggers.

From there, you’ll be introduced to the foundational principles of Pilates—practical tools you can apply both in your exercises and in everyday life. Each movement will be guided with care, ensuring proper alignment and safe technique before progressing further.

To support your progress, you’ll also receive “homework” through our Core Concepts Library, giving you simple, structured exercises to practice between sessions. Together, these one-on-one sessions and at-home resources prepare you for group classes and set the stage for long-term rehabilitation and recovery.

Many people worry they’re “not flexible or fit enough” for Pilates.

The truth? You don’t need to be flexible at all. Our Pilates is intentially designed to meet you where you are and gradually improve mobility and posture over time.

The Reformer looks impressive, but it’s simply a tool to support your body and make exercises more effective. Under the guidance of our therapists, you’ll find it safe, adaptable, and surprisingly fun.

At Core Concepts, our therapists and instructors are highly trained in both movement science and rehabilitation. They’re here to guide, encourage, and adapt every exercise to your needs. You’re never alone in this process.

Absolutely. Your spouse or friend is welcome to begin the same rehabilitation journey. Each person will undergo a separate assessment, since everyone has their own unique needs and goals. Depending on the outcome of these assessments, you may be able to continue together in duet sessions, though in most cases each of you will work with your own therapist to ensure individualised care. Whenever possible, we’ll coordinate your schedules so your sessions align for convenience.

Starting something new is always easier with support, and having a family member or friend alongside you can make a big difference. Shared encouragement often strengthens commitment and helps both of you stay consistent over the long term.

Clearing Up Misconceptions

Pilates is cardio.” At Core Concepts Pilates & Rehabilitation, Pilates isn’t simply about flexibility –  it is about rebuilding strength, correcting posture, and supporting your body’s recovery.

Every movement is purposeful, designed to activate the right muscles and help you move with ease.

“Pilates is only for older women.” Absolutely not! Pilates is for everyone.

We believe so strongly in its benefits that we encourage tweens and teens to make it part of their lifestyle.

What Our Patients Say

“I was recommended to Core Concepts after being involved in an accident. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and willing to assist newcomers. The classes have significantly accelerated my recovery, and I will likely continue with them even after my recovery is complete.”

Denis Dell

“After lumbar spine surgeries, I was sceptical about Pilates. But René White guided us with such expertise that the progress became visible daily. My husband joined me too, and now Pilates is part of our lifestyle. The staff feels like family—we’ve already seen a significant change in our lives.”

Zelda & Gerhard Oosthuizen

I had a fantastic experience at the Core Concept Studio! The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The instructors are skilled, patient, and passionate about helping clients improve their strength and flexibility. The studio is clean, well-equipped, and has a calming atmosphere that makes every session enjoyable. As a beginner, they tailor the workouts to my needs, ensuring I get the most out of every session. I’ve noticed an improvement in my posture and core strength since joining. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for quality Pilates training!

Over the past three months, I’ve observed significant improvements in both my physical well-being, such as improved posture and spinal alignment, as well as better control and coordination during movements, and in my mental well-being, including improved focus. Rene is a skilled and attentive instructor. She consistently incorporates workouts that focus on various muscle groups to promote overall strength and muscle development, provides clear instructions, creates a welcoming and encouraging environment, and adapts sessions to individual needs without disrupting the group flow. My Pilates journey so far has been incredibly positive. I feel stronger, more centered, and better equipped to manage physical stress and strain. These sessions have become a valued part of my weekly routine, and I look forward to continuing.
